Scene One - Enter narrator to main stage. Stage is set in Europe during the 17th century in a small village. It is evening time and is getting cold outside. It is observed that the cast all speak a dialect of English known as "Mofoistic" which more or less means that they talk fairly stupidly only without the overabundance of the word "Mofo" since that would not be time-appropriate.
NARRATOR Tonight I will walk you through a great tragedy, a suspenseful thriller with more action than one could possibly desire. This is a tale of love, hate, deceit, and courage.
There are two sides to this story, one noble and good - the other conniving and evil. I will leave it up to you to decide which story you follow; perhaps those that seem evil are really more noble? Perhaps those who seem noble are more despicable than those that are evil? Only you can decide. I choose to merely observe.
Enter Judge Sam
SAM Due to the looming danger of spy infiltration it is hereby decreed that all the citizens of our community must join together in families of four. You may choose however you desire, however you have but until the night of Tuesday to make your decision. Those without a family will be without a home and therefore not welcomed among the citizens of the Burg.
NARRATOR As Judge Sam makes his announcement the citizens, who have congregated in an old church to hear the decree, begin to meet one another. Among those that stand out are Beverly and Abrams, who seem to already have an intense dislike one another. Beverly is abrasive and very loud and several of the citizens seem to see her in a bad light. As the citizens disperse from the church, several of them begin talking outside as they begin to form their families.
Enter Johan
NARRATOR Here we see the star of our play. The beloved Johan. Johan is a down-on-his-luck citizen, an innocent civilian being persued by a most heinous and puerile group of spies whose ill intentions have not gone unnoticed. The innocent civilians, aware that there are spies among them, have made a pact to seek out and dispose of the cancerous evil in their midsts... But only time will tell if they are able to exile the spies and not their own allies...
JOHAN Alas, I am without a family or a home. In this most desolate and dangerous land how will I ever survive?
CANDY What is this? Be'est thou without a home?
JOHAN Most assuredly so. Have you a family?
CANDY Indeed, however, we are in need of but one more spot. Tell me, Johan, you're not a spy, are you?
JOHAN Of course not. I would be honored to enter your home, Candy.
CANDY Good, good. Come, let us meet the others.
Candy and Johan enter the family house where Lise and Abrams are sitting at a table, talking.
ABRAMS And who have we here?
LISE A visitor? You must introduce us, Candy.
CANDY This is Johan, he will be joining our family in our efforts to exile the evil spies from the Burg!
JOHAN Greetings, friends. I thank you for allowing me to enter your home. There are many citizens here, and yet some are spies. Have you any suspicions yet?
LISE No.
ABRAMS Not really.
Johan walks to the side of the stage and addresses the audience.
JOHAN A perplexing engagement I've found myself in
A group of little speaking, where shall we begin?
If distrust there is, I do understand,
But it seems to me that there is more at hand.
Silently families work towards a goal,
But lacking in talking is bad for us all.
Two days remain to find a true home,
If a better spot I may find, there I will go.
As Johan speaks Abrams and Lise leave the home.
CANDY Johan, I must ask you, do you feel safe among our home?
JOHAN Surely it would be foolish to feel safe among those I do not yet know, but I also do not have any immediate fears.
CANDY I see. Well, I must also be going. Take care, new family member.
JOHAN You as well.
Candy leaves the set and Johan wanders outside, walking down the street where he encounters Ralph.
RALPH Hello, we haven't met yet.
JOHAN We have not. How are you?
RALPH Overwhelmed, to say the least.
JOHAN I am of similar circumstance, for there are so many of us in the Burg.
RALPH Indeed. So, you have heard the murmers that Beverly will soon be exiled from within our midsts?
JOHAN I have, and I must confess that I disagree with the situation entirely. It would be senseless to base such a bold charge on so little information.
RALPH It would. I am glad we see eye to eye on this. I must be going, but it was nice to speak with you.
JOHAN The pleasure was mutual, my friend. Take care.
Exit Ralph. Johan walks across the stage. Enter Sherri.
SHERRI Hi, Johan!
JOHAN Well, hello, it is a pleasure to meet you.
SHERRI Yes, and what a beautiful outfit you have on!
JOHAN I thank you, it is a garment passed down through generations in my family. And you also look nice.
SHERRI No need to flatter, dear Johan. Were you able to eat one of my cupcakes?
JOHAN Alas, no, I missed out on a grand delight!
SHERRI Worry not, Johan, there will be many more opportunities. So, tell me, what think you on the first exile?
JOHAN I am afraid that we will cast blindly a vote that will exile one of our very own.
SHERRI I share your concerns... I believe that we should all be open and vocal, for if we all speak our piece, the spies must also speak to blend in, and therein lies evidence that will help our cause.
JOHAN I find this to be a wise plan, Sherri. I look forward to cooperating with you on this endeavor!
SHERRI As do I! Well, I must be off to bed, take care, Johan.
JOHAN Farewell.
Exit Sherri. Johan makes his way back towards his home as the curtains draw.
