IMPRISONMENT VIII It’s been 34 days since you first met your fellow villagers. 23 days since you’ve learned that there were 2 different Spy groups working against you. 17 days since the first Spy was eliminated. Since then you’ve caught 3 additional Spies knocking down the Traditionalists into just one Traditionalist. Despite only starting with 3, the 2 remaining Orthodoxy have managed to elude your capture in all but one of 8 Exiles.
Lots has happened in Spies 4 so far and lots more will continue to happen in the future. It’s 1 VS. 2 VS. 12 at this point and it’s anyone’s game. I can now reveal that, with Angelica’s Exile, the first vestiges of contact between the two warring groups of Spies began. Each group was allowed to send one carefully edited message (with many off-limit topics) to their compatriots in crime. As time went on and more Spies got Exiled, the contact slowly increased from one-time anonymous messages.
How far that communication has extended is a mystery, but I can confirm that the two groups of Spies do have the capability to talk to one other to discuss secret Spy dealings. Whether they are using that information to work towards common goals or planning to use it to blackmail the other group is uncertain. Remember that the Spies are just like you – they do not know who to trust and are wary of being eliminated at every turn. Just as you are hesitant to trust people fully, so are the Spies hesitant to trust an opposing group they have been working against for the last 34 days.
If you were wondering, the win condition for the Spies will never change – each group must win on its own. The two groups will never ever combine.
Let’s get on with the story! VULNERABLE:

”You want me to take part in a WHAT?”
Masaki stood in front of Adelaide’s front door on a brisk fall evening. Masaki had been going door to door, asking villagers to take part in something that he hoped would get them definitive answers. Tired with all the hearsay and half-truths, Masaki decided to try and channel the truth from unlikely sources.
“A science?” Adelaide asked incredulously. “What, do you plan on turning the Spies to gold?”
Masaki repeated the word for the event.
“A sancé? Is that some sort of modern dance?”
“A SÉANCE!” Masaki yelled. “Séance! Where you talk to the spirits of the dead. I was hoping we could do that and get some answers.”
“Oh.” Adelaide said, thinking. “Well I suppose it couldn’t hurt.”

Masaki led the people who had agreed to take part in the séance into his home where he had prepared for the event. He had set up a circular table with 7 chairs in the middle of the lounge room. The room was dark and foggy. The lit candles gave life to shadows dancing along the walls. On the table was a primitive Ouija board for use in contacting the spirits.
“How does this work again?” Faizah asked as she took a seat and began poking the Ouija board.
“It’s simple.” Masaki replied. “First I will tell a story about the ancient spirits that live in this house. Then I will ask the spirits for some answers. They will respond through this Ouija board. Maybe they can tell us who is lying and who is behind all the secrets that keep happening around here.
“Wouldn’t it be better to ask the spirits for the names of the Spies?” Candy asked sarcastically. “Maybe the ones we already got rid of will drop us a hint or two.”
“Do you really think they’d betray their friends?” Faizah asked hopefully. “Maybe we can pay them off or something.”
“And just what do you think dead spirits would use gold for?” Candy shot back. “Jesus Christ!”
“Huh.” Faizah said, thinking. “Maybe we can contact him too.” VULNERABLE:

Masaki closed the door as he began the story.
“In 1657, Governor Jacobs and his wife, Mrs. Jacobs, moved into this house after ten long, tumultuous years of running the city. Mrs. Jacobs had been looking forward to her husband’s retirement for so many years she had lost count. It seemed as if ever since she got married her life had become stressful, harried, and difficult.
She was overwhelmed with relief after her husband retired, eager to spend the last of her years in peace and tranquility in the house she had grown up in. She wished nothing more than a return to the innocence and optimism of her childhood.
Before she had gotten married, Mrs. Jacobs was a pretty, intelligent, joyful, and self-assured woman. As a girl growing up in this house her future looked bright. She had it all: fortune, sense, looks, an adoring family, and most importantly, humility. It looked like her good fortune would continue when she married the ambitious and popular Mr. Jacobs. But all was not as it seemed.”

“It began with his job as a lawyer. His job brought shady characters knocking on their door at all hours. It continued when her husband decided to run for Governor. The political campaign was brutal and taxing. Forced to wave, smile, and talk for hours on end, Mrs. Jacobs quickly lost the youthful spark she once had inside her. Deep inside, she was praying and hoping they would lose the election.
Masaki continued: “Unfortunately, they didn’t. The ensuing ten years as Governor were filled with scandals and controversy. Mrs. Jacobs knew that her husband wasn’t the most virtuous man in the world. But she had no idea how deep in the mud he was. Through all the sex scandals, money laundering schemes, and political struggles, Mrs. Jacobs stood by her husband. She believed all of his apologies and all of his lies, despite the fact that deep down she knew there wasn’t an ounce of truth in them.
Mrs. Jacobs was beyond relieved when her husband’s term as Governor was over. She could finally relax and retire in her beautiful home. Little did she know that she was not destined to have but a single night of respite. The very next day after they moved into the house a disgruntled shop owner broke in. Furious because the Governor had forced his business into bankruptcy, he decided to end the Governor’s life just as the Governor had effectively ended his.” VULNERABLE:

“50 years ago that murderous man broke into this very room, looking for the Governor.” Masaki said ominously. “What he found was shaded, unrecognizable figure reading a book. Sitting in this very chair.”
At this point a gentle light shone through the window, illuminating a shaded figure sitting in a chair across the room. Everyone gasped. Masaki continued.
“Mrs. Jacobs was murdered that night. Her husband escaped, safe and sound. He added the money from her life insurance to the millions he already had stocked away, hidden from his wife, from his corrupt business deals. He lived a long and luxurious life for the rest of his years.
Mrs. Jacobs, robbed of her precious life serving a corrupt man who used and abused her gentle nature, now haunts this very room. Searching for the Governor. Desiring revenge.”

At this point all of the visitors had been enraptured by the tale. Their concentration was blown when a loud, sharp thunder boomed from the skies. A nearby dresser burst open. The curtains ruffled. Haunting music drifted in from outside.
“I don’t know if I like this…” Singe said nervously to Kip. “Maybe we should leave. We should let Mrs. Jacobs continue on with her burning desire for revenge in peace.”
“No no, don’t leave yet.” Masaki interrupted. “We still haven’t contacted the spirits yet… though it seems by their actions they have made themselves known.”
Masaki took everybody’s hands as they held the circular pointer over the Ouija board. Calmly, as a storm raged outside the house, Masaki asked the question:
“Ouija board, which of us will be taken away next?”

The answer to that question was about to be revealed to the villagers, but it wasn’t through the intervention of the spirits.
Putting down the violin she had been playing haunting music from, the Official sent from the Orthodoxy Spies walked towards the séance. She was about to give them an otherworldly experience they would never forget.
Picking up a “grenade” filled with blinding powder, she kicked the door down and threw it into the room.
“I'll show you who!"
Adelaide has been kidnapped and Imprisoned by the Spies.
You will never see them again. Adelaide : please post Final Words in your confessional immediately. Judge Sam: “Oh man. The Burg is going to be a much less exciting place to read without you Adelaide. Your personality is so unique and fun and I will miss your presence. I loved how you were never afraid to say what you thought. You never once held back or disguised your true thoughts. You have an infectious innocence that I enjoyed watching in the game. I never had one single issue with you – you participated in all aspects of the game with heart and enthusiasm. Thank you so much for giving this game your best and for being an awesome player. I hope you enjoyed your 34 days in the game and I am excited to talk to you more in the Losers Lounge.” Adelaide was a Citizen. Judge Sam: “Adelaide has been taken from us. Why was she Imprisoned? What does that tell us about the Orthodoxy Spies? So many questions and so little answers." Congratulations on surviving Imprisonment. One of you will not survive the next Exile. Exile VIII is Sunday at 9:30 PM CST. I’ll see you there.
