Oh, I guess I was surprised because you posted "cancelling" and then didn't add your name to the list of the people who were interested in participating in the game. I think we were going to just take volunteers on who wants to host (not knocking Samson but I don't see how his permission factors into anything but I like his suggestion so I can play You're the only volunteer so far so I vote for you to host! Hmm... could you explain how multiple-life games work? I'm confused and intrigued and want to hear more. I've never seen one before. Could you link to a previous game somewhere where it took place? What are the rules? I was also hoping that people would throw around ideas for the game setup. This might just be me, but I got the feeling that people were wanting a more basic game that goes medium-paced. Of course Adelaide's Mini Game 1 went as fast as it could with the break and three decision making points per day. But I think people wanted a medium-paced game with definitive points... and if everyone has 2 lives (I'm assuming) that could drag on foreverrrrrrrrrrr I'm looking at some of the "basic" setups for 7 or 9 people, but does anyone know where we can get a full list of those? That might be fun.

YAYE Sam! It's actually an idea I got when browsing through Wikipedia. I don't have a sample game to show you but I think my "plan" would work. Just like how you do Survivor, I think the only way to ensure balance is to predict how many players would remain in a certain round and how each of them would generally behave. (And some statistics work I guess ) I saw two concerns you raised: 1. Decision points. I ensured that each player will have a Decision needed for the day (lynch vote). Each player with a role (spy, doctor, whatever) will have a decision for the night. Two decisions total. 2. Unnatural long game length because of lives. I was actually thinking of THREE LIVES each. You only die (get eliminated) when you hit zero lives. (I was planning to post this later but since the Addy's game is finishing within 48 hours, there's no use holding it) DAY VOTING PROCESS 0. Lynch means to lose one life. 1. Each player has one vote. 2. It takes X/2- 1 (round up) to lynch. For eight players, Day One will take three votes to lynch. A regular lynching rule (majority vote, wherein everybody must vote) will start when we get down to 5 players or 9 lives (still tweaking this). 3. Because of this, one or two players will get lynched (lose one life) every single day. (I have a few other stuff to ensure that the game will not drag along... ) (Ross Note: I wanted to do something that actually sparks discussion and eliminates the "random" day voting. As a host, I want players to have a motive/reason to eliminate somebody. I was initially thinking of creating a challenge a la "Survivor Pot/Plate Smashing" but I wanted to try something different. And as Ralph said, it sucks to be eliminated early. Giving a longer time before somebody goes down gives (1) more time to defend yourself if things get screwed up the first round/day and (2) gives more hints against the Spies. But of course with this system, the Spies only have to convince one Citizen to vote with them to gain a lynching vote so...) Edit: Will make a simpler rules post once before the game starts. -------------------------------------- Princeton University Mafia SiteWikipediaFacebook MafiaMafiascum.net and MafiaScum Wiki

So how will night kills work? Will they take all a players lives, or will they only take 1? If they only take 1, will it be revealed who lost the life? If so, will mafia be allowed to kill themselves?

Well if anybody feels more comfortable playing a more standard game then that is fine with me. I'm just offering something new. :-) (I actually am working a bit hard just to make sure things are balanced for this game.)

I forgot about that Ralph.
When somebody is eliminated (loses all lives), then we reveal whether he/she is a Citizen or not.
Lives will be not be reset at any point in the game. Citizens will be given many chances to take out lives from suspicious people. Spies will be given chances to eliminate people who the feel are threats.

Also, just throwing this out there, typical standard mafia of Doctor/Cop/Roleless Mafia/Roleless Citizens pisses me off and bores me to no end. If I want to play that style I will go to facebook and finish a game in 20 minutes that will never have any impact on how I play any game ever again because it requires no skill, nor would it require skill if we just stuck to that basic ruleset That's why I like Spies and that's why I like the game I set up, they're unique, they don't diverge too much from the normal lynch then kill then lynch then kill setup so that you can follow it, and the roles don't just equal instant success. Leave the boring games for Facebook and leave the fun for the Spies series and Spies Mini Games I like that Ross is getting creative and I can't wait to see what he's set up for us.

Also, just throwing this out there, typical standard mafia of Doctor/Cop/Roleless Mafia/Roleless Citizens pisses me off and bores me to no end. If I want to play that style I will go to facebook and finish a game in 20 minutes Please tell me how 20 minute normal Facebook games are ANYTHING like normal games. That's like saying children kicking 5 soccer balls into goals during P.E. is like major league soccer. That's insane. Have you even played a normal forum game? I haven't really, all the games I find are off-the-wall. In my opinion, I'd like to play something basic, something proven to be fun, entertaining, and unique over and over again. I'd also like it to finish within 3 weeks. I have no problem with unique mafia setups but when it hasn't even been done before once, especially in a world of mafia games where everybody does crazy random shit just because they feel like it I can't help but be a little wary haha. I'm not going to anlayze the setup because no one cares, but I think there are many, many problems with it. Here's some questions to think about. - When do you think the first person will be eliminated from the game? - How long do you expect each Episode will take place, and how many Episodes do you think there will be until the game is over? - Do you think people will engage heatedly in a discussion when the only penalty is the loss of one of three lives? - What does it mean to have a vote where two people can be penalized? How does that affect the game? (It affects it a lot.) etc... The only thing I could see that would make this work is if you had tons of roles that took off people's "lives" single-handedly... for example one or two serial killers, one or two vigilantes, or the mafia got two "kills." That's a lot to balance, as well as remembering that you want the number of power roles to be less than the number of mafia to prevent collusive lockdown. Not to mention that Spies 5 is coming soon and if this game lasts 2 months then it'll run up into it. That's just my opinion, I want to hear yours.
