Excellent questions. Consider the game "started". And the thing is, people think about your game like this all the time Sam. With (almost) everything hidden, we are initial skeptics on how the game setup is supposed to be fair. But if course, everything has an explanation (Similar to how the hell was Anneliese going to get six-eight people post a word every episode so she can get benefits before she knew there were 12 other people coming)
- When do you think the first person will be eliminated from the game?
Second day on average.
- How long do you expect each Episode will take place, and how many Episodes do you think there will be until the game is over?
From what I see, worst case is seven/eight rounds.
Every round = one day/night. Every day = One RL day. Every night = One RL night. Plus a couple of rest days...
One month is over the top. Two months is impossible.
But of course with some surprises, it's all up to you guys...
- Do you think people will engage heatedly in a discussion when the only penalty is the loss of one of three lives?
- Nope. But with the voting history along with a couple of "other things", discussion will be there.
... as well as remembering that you want the number of power roles to be less than the number of mafia to prevent collusive lockdown.
It's a risk and a job that I was very much willing to take when I volunteered hosting. I was very much aware of this ever since the multiple-lives idea came to me. It has its quirks, but it could be fun.

www.mafiascum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4029A game I ran on MafiaScum where it took multiple hits to knock someone out. You may be able to learn a bit about how multi-life game pacing works by reading that game. As I recall, the biggest issues were slow start and people slacking because they didn't feel the same urgency once they knew they couldn't be instakilled. I had to fill the game with scum and town roles who could take one or more lives at a time, because otherwise the game would have taken forever.

Thank you for the resource. :-) The roles have already been set (except for one role, just added today, which I thought was fun ) when I talked to Ralph and I only made a few adjustments when Matt signed up. The only pace I'm worried about is whether One-day days and One-day nights with one day-breaks every week would be fine with you guys.

How would this ever happen? On day one Person A loses one life. The mafia will not select Person A to lose another life. Why? Because if Person A is a mafia, then of course they won't. If Person A is a Citizen, then Person A is thought of as a mafia, then why would they want them dead? I would say you would be lucky to have someone die on day three at the very earliest. Would not be surprised to see most people go down to 2 or 1 lives before 1 or 2 people are eliminated. ONE DAY FOR ONE EPISODE!?! holy shit. That's not the type of game I signed up for lol. I want to play a medium-speed game, not the fastest game ever conceived. I want to be able to visit the game every 1-2 days and put in my input. I need 2-4 days per Day, and 1-2 days per Night. This is a mini-game for fun, not the most epic unique creation. I realize you have had an idea for mafia you have wanted to try out for a long time, but this isn't really the place for it.

I will adjust scheduling.
Still the fact remains that this game would go seven rounds average. So considering the new schedule, one month.
Would that be fine?

And no, this is not some idea that I had for a very long time. I just wanted to host for a very long time. And considering I rarely had the opportunity to do so, I am giving it my all for this chance that you guys give me.
(I could've just gone for a basic setup but of course that would bore me and some of you to death. )
I'd probably not going to host another online Mini for the next three months after this so I'm planning and balancing as hard as I can. :-)

All succeeding applications will be for replacements in case we have any idlers. (Hopefully there are none).
I want this locked in ten and it would take me forever to balance things for the fourth time.

I'll play according to the schedule everyone else wants but I want to remind everyone that this is Ross' game, nobody should be saying that this is or isn't the place for certain types of games no matter how loved and great of a host they are. This is the place for whatever type of game people want to play

I imagine Ross will benefit from Sam's advice that one-real-day-per-gameday might be too short/chaotic/random given how often this crew tends to visit the forum.

Well I honestly didn't know how long each day would ideally take. Sometimes, I thought Addy's game took long but from what I saw (looking at other games out there) it turned out to be the norm. So I adjusted the schedule accordingly.
I know how to design Mafia games. I just don't have much hosting experience, so any advice on that would be awesome.

When I hosted my 15 person game, we played 36 hours days and 24 hour nights and it worked out just fine. People were beyond active and it turned out to be a quite good showing of participation. See the thing is I can't judge other people's schedules but I'm in college so I have wireless and am basically on the computer a lot. Sure there are some days where I'm unexpectedly away but for the most part I spend the whee hours of the twilight clicking back and forth between here and DDRFreak, bored that there is nothing to do Which is why I said I'm open to what other people want cause my schedule is basically non-demanding.

Hey, I'm sure the game is going to be great, but I'm going to pull out and focus on working on Spies 5. You guys wouldn't want hours of my time invested here when it could be working on that haha. Plus you don't want me bitching during the game trying to make the game work right (I'm sure you're tired of it already and the game hasn't even started!) And without me it'll go faster haha. Good luck!

I'm actually very tired of not being able to have a chance to actually design something. I took computer science in the hopes that I would be able to create all the games in my head. It turns out that I suck at programming. Still, I continued learning about game design by reading stuff and experiencing different types of games. I am trying to get people in my University to be interested in game design, and for the past six months of my efforts, nobody is doing it. For a few months now I've been organizing Mafia games both online and in my University and all I get are one, two or three interested. I just wish people would just give me and what I'm passionate about a chance. All I ask is for you guys to trust me on this. :-)

Maybe I should've created a Pizza Themed game and called it Tenchi's Pizza Parlor. I couldn't think of a title that would fit this game. Anyway, I am still excited and anxious about this. Hopefully the seven others are still in this and would confirm later. For now, I have to get some sleep. :-p

This game will probably be played all on boards so you probably don't even have to worry about being up at odd hours, Hannah!

Also, since Sam won't be playing. It would be safe for some of you to schedule AIM meetings over Board PMs.
For game choices though, I would recommend using AIM.
