FINAL EXILE
Judge Sam: “Day 55. The Final Five. 44 days ago the group was split into two groups of 12 at the Schism. Back then each Exile seemed so small. I said then that soon enough every exile would be that small.
Well we’ve cut the group in half again and then some. 24 of your competitors sit in the Loser’s Lounge, their power to vote stripped away from them. Each of you now contains nearly six times the voting power you had at the start of the game. Your decision means more than ever. 24 pairs of eyes are watching you, each with their own opinion on who is the Spy. Tonight is our penultimate chance to catch the Spy and win the game for the Citizens. So far we’ve had a pretty good record – 5 Spies caught in 12 Exiles. Let’s see if we can finish the game tonight.”
Sam stands up resolutely, picks up the voting shoebox, and begins walking amongst the townspeople. One by one, they drop their vote into the shoebox. Some are satisfied with their choice, others are nervous and unsure. Everyone - Citizens and Spies alike - are praying that their name does not come up.
Judge Sam: "All of the votes have been received and verified, and a result has been decided. Let the Exiling begin."
The first vote of Exile XII:
Zander, by Damon.
Damon, by Zander.
Zander, Damon.
One vote apiece for these two men.
Vote three:
Zander, by Kip.
Zander.
One more for Zander clinches it.
Vote four:
Zander, by Leon.
Zander, by Summer.
Final Vote Count:
4: Zander
1: Damon
Zander - You have been Exiled from the Burg under suspicion of being a Spy. It is now your time to leave. Goodbye.
Judge Sam: "You played an excellent game Zander from start to finish. I know at the start you were worried that your performance wouldn’t be up to par with what was expected from you, but clearly you have exceeded all expectations. Your activity, ingenuity, confessionals, conversations, strategy, and clear-headedness got you this far and you deserve it. What an excellent story you created with Zander. Thank you for taking me and all of us on that journey. I really enjoyed having you play. Congratulations on kicking so much ass and making it so far.”
Zander : Please post Final Words in your confessional immediately.
Zander takes one last look at their former friends. Saddened by being suspected of a Spy by the people they trusted, they take their supplies and compass and head out into the wilderness, disappearing into the sunset. You will never see them again.
It is now time to find out if this person was truly a Spy. If they were, we will rejoice in becoming one step closer to safety and security. If they were not, we just cast out an innocent soul. Someone just like us. Someone who wanted to eliminate the Spies just as badly as we do.
Zander was a....
Spy.
Judge Sam: “CITIZENS WIN SPIES 4: THE SCHISM!!!”
The Burg is now a safe and secure place, free from outside meddling from the Religious Authority and free from divisive politics from within. Leon, Summer, Damon, and Kip have eliminated all 7 Spies and reclaimed the Burg for the Citizens. You four managed to avoid Imprisonment by the Spies with your ingenuity, strategies, and a little bit of luck. You four managed to avoid Exiles by not appearing suspicious, working with the other Citizens and Spies, and targeting others. You four also managed to use your detective and investigative skills to deduce the Identity of the 7 Spies and gather up the support to eliminate them one by one.
Damon....Leon..Summer...Kip.....Candy
Congratulations to you five and to all the Citizens who made this possible. The Citizens played an incredible game. From selecting the right targets for investigation, to encouraging Spy on Spy warfare, to picking out evidence and finding Spies, to manipulating events towards the Citizen’s favor. You outwitted two groups of very talented Spies to earn victory.
Congratulations also to the Traditionalists, who played an amazing early game. Unfortunately a pair of investigations from the Orthodoxy picked off half of your team, a blow from which you were unable to recover. You guys never gave up though, despite incredible odds, and fought on until your very last breath. I am incredibly impressed by that.
Congratulations to the Orthodoxy, who faced 25 fierce competitors at the start of the game with only their small group of 3. Despite this you managed to survive the first 19 eliminations while losing only one friend. You faced amazing difficulties and overcame all of them to make it as far as you did. You nearly single-handedly pulled off a victory but just couldn't squeak through at the end. Excellent job, I am impressed.
Both of the Spy groups successfully worked your way around an enemy Spy group, a dividing Schism, a powerful Fatemaker and all of her powers, a savvy and intelligent Bodyguard who limited your options at Imprisonment, a crafty Priest who received guidance from the eliminated and ultimately brought back a confirmed citizen to wreak havoc, an inquisitive Martyr who got himself Imprisoned and started investigating, three sets of Families, three Rankings, Critiques, Interviews, a Double Exile, Mini Mole games, Mini Mafia games, two different challenges, a Trial, and 21 Citizens spending 55 days looking for you. Amazing.
Leon, Summer, Damon, and Kip run to the prison in Capital to rescue their long-lost citizen friends: Sherri, Lise, Lloyd, Gordy, Adelaide, Johan, Bunni, Singe, and Candy. Then they go out searching the land, looking for the Citizens they falsely Exiled: Martha, Grace, Jeremiah, Ralph, Cain, Abrams, and Hannah. Everyone celebrates back in the Burg with a joyous celebration that lasts long into the night.
The divisions that split the Burg in two have been healed. No more will the town be divided by ideology or by outside forces. Whatever disagreements, whatever divides, the town will come together as one to solve them. The Burg will be a peaceful place for centuries to come.
Thank you to everybody who played this game with their hearts and with their heads. Thank you for giving it your all and contributing to such an active and interesting game. You made it the resounding success it is. I hope to keep in touch with everyone of you – don’t be shy to IM me and each other. I had an incredibly entertaining time and I hope you did as well.
And so ends the epic tale of Spies 4: The Schism. Stick with the board as the episodes are released one by one. Additional bonus material including Spy HQ, the Burg, and Secret Hideaway posts along with game discussion will take place. I guarantee that there will be some eye-opening material as you read the thoughts and conversations of your fellow players. Seeing the game from their perspective may provide insights for you in the next game you play. Each of the 29 players had their own secrets which are waiting for you to discover.
It is now time for this chapter in the Spies history books to close and for a new chapter to begin. Scheduling and concept work is still under construction for Spies 5 which is scheduled to take place around February, with applications opening perhaps earlier. Look for new Citizen (and Spy?) roles that test the ingenuity and creativity of the players, as well as providing dramatic scenarios. Look for a creative and unique setting that takes Spies to a place you never thought it’d go. Look for new surprises, interesting events, revealing activities, awesome Imprisonment stories, and what’s sure to be the most active and kickass cast ever assembled. I can't wait.
I’ll see you then!
Shoot for the moon. If you miss, you will still be among the stars.
