Hmmmm... not content with jumping on the Japanese bandwagon, it seems that Masaki feels like aping my role-inventing tactic as well. (Well ok... Davoni did it first... and Sam suggested it to me... but at least I got it to work!)
Y'know, I never thought he'd make a great spy because, good citizen though he was, he had one massive weakness that pretty much cancelled out all of his strengths - indecisiveness. He had a lot of people who were willing to follow him, yet he was incapable of leading. The one time he had a real chance to lead everyone to a surefire spy exile, he threw it away, and I still don't really understand why. (Well, I do... Bebe was and still is one of the most persuasive spies in the series.) And by doing so, he practically invited his own exile. I wondered what he'd do as a spy. It seems as if he's just tried to copy the tactics of the most successful spies, but not really managed to do anything to hide it?
The only thing that really surprises me about Masaki being a spy is that he's a Traditionalist, because I really had Leon or Singe pegged for the last trad. I didn't really see him doing much to help the citizens. Frankly he reminded me of Leo and Julian. Unless he was doing a huge amount behind the scenes, I would mark him down as a passive spy. And unless they've got a large number of aggressive partners to shield them (Raphael), they don't stand a chance. The moment Masaki lost Naomi and Bev, I think he was a dead man walking unless he could change his tactics sharpish. He never did until it was far too late.
Comments? Am I too harsh?

Masaki was high. It was a worse tactic (role description) compared to Bev's -- it was horrendous and pointless.
Masaki was good but he failed to look beyond and start manipulating other people. He was deemed trustworthy at some point (third episode?) but (just like Martha dearie said) he failed to capitalize on the trust people gave him. He stayed too much in the middle. Overall, he is a mediocre spy. Nothing special.

I dared him to imprison me in episode 9. He chose Johan instead but I had so much fun with this:
spies4Candy: OK spies4Candy: So you imprisoning me next? spies4Masaki: huh? spies4Candy: Yeah we'll find out on Tuesday spies4Masaki: So you do have a problem with me
spies4Masaki: You're the one who was bitter for a week over a stupid argument spies4Candy: I'm entitled spies4Masaki: Sure you are spies4Candy: I have emotions spies4Masaki: Whacky ones spies4Candy: Deal with it! spies4Masaki: Nah spies4Candy: Then imprison me and be done with it spies4Masaki: hehe spies4Candy: Yeah that's what I'm talking about spies4Candy: I see it coming spies4Candy: You see it coming spies4Candy: Fortunately the whole burg will see it coming spies4Masaki: So you really think I'm a spy huh? spies4Candy: You're next in line
spies4Masaki: Naomi simply had more time to accumulate votes than Beverly did spies4Candy: Lalalalalalalalalalalala spies4Candy: My self-pity has kicked in and is drowning you out
spies4Candy: Ever think I wanted to stop that from happening? spies4Masaki: Being imprisoned? spies4Candy: Bottoms up! spies4Masaki: That's not really relevant spies4Masaki: You're under suspicion at this point spies4Masaki: Might as well keep you around and have you exiled instead maybe? spies4Masaki: Then again, Traditionalists have not imprisoned for a long time spies4Masaki: They didn't get to do it during Bunni's trial
(I picture him sharpening a knife there)
spies4Candy: Singe has allowed you in the house? spies4Masaki: Singe and I are tight spies4Candy: Mmm spies4Candy: Does he mind your corpse collection? spies4Masaki: spies imprison spies4Masaki: this isnt mafia ;-)

This is like the #1 thing Spies don't do, this game included.

Its WAY too nerve racking to ask for a big favor that could cause everyone to jump down your throat if they don't trust you enough.
And I did attempt to capitalize on the trust Jenn gave me in spies 3 by asking her to post the bunker word, it just didn't matter if she did or not.

This is like the #1 thing Spies don't do, this game included. Bebe did, brilliantly, and pretty much saved herself from being exiled on one occasion. Tenchi was as good at this as he was at everything else he did - look how many people he had fooled, and how he capitalized on it to get people voting obvious cits like Jack, Anneliese and Miles. Jessica too, although not to quite the same degree later on in the game. And I know you'd probably disagree, Sam, but I'd say that Tyson did, at least until the final three rounds. For example, Davoni was all for exiling Allison in the early part of the round she herself was exiled. Somehow, though, she got the impression that Allison wasn't a possible target - perhaps because Adriana and her alliance would've blocked it. Somebody had to give her that idea, and it sure as hell wasn't Tiffany.
