"It was a cool December day and the spirit of Christmas was alive and kicking... no wait, it was live and... no wait AAAAAGH", Candy shut close her laptop. She was pissed. Writer's block was becoming a regular occurence in the days since her fiance disappeared.

She looked out her window at the wintery ground and sighed, "oh Johan why did you have to run off with that skank ho Faizah", she started to feel a tingle inside thinking about his long wavy hair (little did she know that that hair came from his days as a woman named Tiffany).

"He didn't" said a (put on) deep voice. Candy was startled. It took her a few minutes to see where the sound of the voice came from (Candy was very slow). It was Hannah.

"Mannah! Oh my! Oh my! What are you doing here?" cried Candy. "I'm here to warn you" she replied. "About what!?!" but it was too late, Candy dropped to the ground. Hannah emptied her pockets and fled.

Hours later Beverly and Gordy dropped buy for her daily dose of Sugary Sweet Candy Love. "OH MMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOD" scream Beverly. "So what if shes dead" said Gordy. "OIMG U S1CK FREKAA GRODY" cried a disgusted beverly "SHES DEAAAAAAAAD".

Blah blah blah. Months later everyone else died except for 8 people:

They all came to the conclusion (EVENTUALLY) that 2 of them were killing everyone off and they needed to find out who.

PMS/IMS/emails will be sent over the next few hours to tell you your identities.

2 Mafia. In the meantime, start discussions on who you want as your first Judge. The Judge will be immune from imprisonment and will pick 2 people for Trial. 1 of those 2 people (the one with the most votes) will be voted out.

You have until 12PM CST Tuesday to decide who is your Judge! Go! Go! Go!

If nobody has any objection I'd immediately like to nominate myself as the Judge for the first round. Reason being I'd actually like to survive the first exile this time!

So far there are 2 choices for Judge? If I'm all caught up: Martha & Sam.

Of those in our group these are the 2 that I thought about first. For obvious reasons. Sam was our Host and a Judge for the entire game and Martha because s/he seems to have a very solid grasp of Spies and a magnificant grasp of strategies.

Either I would be comfortable with.

Well shouldn't we at least see whether Sam WANTS to be Judge before people decide which way to vote? He may prefer to be a lawyer, or just to sit out and vote in the first round.

After all, he's been a judge throughout most of four Spies games. He might be getting tired of it. Relishing a new challenge, etc, etc...

I wanted to give it to martha before I even knew she wanted it. The judge has a huge responsibility in picking out two people and getting as many mafia in those two as possible. What we need is someone who has a history of being able to catch spies right at the start.

I know that many people (myself included) can't pick out spies on people's attitudes and whatever you crazy people use. I need some actual actions before I can get suspects, and at this point, there are not many actions to analyze.

That's why I feel we need someone who is good at reading people, like Martha (she did PM people to for Angelica, a spy, right from the start).

For me, its not so much about who wants it, as it is about who deserves it.

Well I guess that answers the question of whether Sam wants to be Judge or not!

It seem that I need a campaign speech. Fortunately I'm never at a loss for a hundred words or so, especially when ten will do, so I invite you, ladies and gentlemen, to take a look at my distinguished opponent Sam. Clearly the man is capable. But what does "capable" really mean? A giraffe is "capable" of biting off its own genitalia with its mouth. Can Sam do that? Can he? Well CAN HE??!!!

(*pauses for breath and rapturous applause*)

Ladies and gentlemen of the court, I do not wish to pour scorn on my opponent's talents, even though he has not demonstrated any thus far. Nor do I wish to condemn him for his total lack of spy-hunting experience, despite this clearly being utterly prohibitive to the possibility that he might do a good job here. No, my main argument would be: what exactly has he done to deserve a position of such importance?

Your loyal servant Martha has, in two out of four Spies games, developed an aptitude for identifying the traitors in our midst early on that is proven and uncontested. PROVEN and UNCONTESTED, people!

(*Takes a moment to clear throat in the same way as Winston Churchill did some sixty five years ago during his famous "We Will Fight Them on the Beaches" scene. Damn, feeling patriotic now.*)

My opponent, on the other hand, has had everything handed to him on a silver platter. As the host of Spies 1, 2, 3 and 4, he has known exactly who the Spies are before they themselves do. He has never known hardship! He has never had to look at a group of people and say to himself, "I think that THIS one is the traitor." No, this man - this boy, even - has just had it all handed to him without deductive effort of any kind required on his part. Is this the kind of man you want to lead you into the first exile? Would you prefer somebody who has known hardship and will fight until the end, like me, or somebody born with a silver spoon in his mouth like Sam?

And when "Judge Sam" because just plain "Sam", and "Summer" became "Judge Summer", how many of you - be honest, now! - how many of you good folk secretly wished that the change would be permanent, but were too scared to say so? Face facts, people: YOU WERE AFRAID. Such is the subjugation that "Judge Sam" - also known as "King Sam", "Sam the Great", and "Sam the Merciless Slayer with Big Sceptre and Pointy Hat" - keeps his subjects. In short, I accuse Sam of being a DESPOTIC DICTATOR OF THE WORST KIND. Is that the kind of person you want to lead you?

Let me finish my argument with a proverb. The relevance of it can hardly escape you.

There lived in a forest three fine foxes named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Shadrach had a fine suit of clothes and was immensely proud of it. Meshach had a portable gramophone and some records of dance music, to which he was greatly addicted. And Abednego had a hogshead of ale, replenished monthly, with which he fortified himself against the manifold horrors of existence. In this fashion they coexisted for a long time, troubling little about each other.

But there came a day when Meshsach, communing with his soul in the forest to the accompaniment of a tango, discovered for the first time the obscene pleasure of righteous indignation. And having discovered them, he went to Abednego and communicated them to him, saying: "Shadrach has a fine suit of clothes, and we have not. But as there was only one portable gramophone and they could not agree which of them was to use it, they threw it into a pond. So then nobody had a portable gramophone.

About a year or so passed, and Meshach went to Shadrach and said: "Abednego has a hogshead of ale and we have not. It is not just or equitable that Abednego should be thus privileged." So they went together to Abednego, overpowered him, and took his hogshead of ale away from him. But as there was not enough to be shared between them, they poured it all into the river. So then nobody had anything, and they were all so angry with one another that they quarrelled, came to blows, and thus fell an easy pray to a number of cannibal foxes which descended on them from the East and tore them limb from limb.

This admirable tale is of course only a simplified version of what is at present going on in this forum, but it mirrors the essential facts. My foxes desired that in the upshot there should be enough gramophones and ale and clothes for all of them. But they hated one another so much that the scheme was impossible to put into effect, and it is my salutory view that they deserved all they got.

IMMUNE FROM IMPRISONMENT! W00T to the Max!

At present I am suspicious of three people in particular. Two of them I'll say straight away: Zander and Lise. If either one of them was mafia, I don't think they'd be expecting me to immediately jump in and volunteer for the Judge's position. Once I'd done so, I think they'd realise that their best play as mafia might be to keep their mouths shut and see how this pans out.

(And yes, I know Zander in particular has said he might have trouble posting... but I'd rather get out a fairly inactive suspect than an active one this early on.)

The third suspicion I have, I'll keep quiet for the moment. I'd like to see your opinions on that one before I make my mind up there.

Guys, please let me know who YOU think I should nominate. Who do you think is mafia, who do you think is NOT mafia, and would you be prepared to defend anybody in a "lawyer's" capacity. I'm particularly anxious to hear from Zander and Lise, since I barely talked to either of them in Spies 4 and have no basis for a "read", as Lloyd puts it. If you don't only want to name two people, name three or four.

I'm really sorry to do this, but I'm gonna have to ask for a replacement, modkill, whatever. For reasons some of you may know, I am gonna be cutting way back on my internet time to take some me time. Again, I am sorry I have to do this, but I don't wanna stick around if my hearts not in it.

I also will probably be away from the boards as well. You may be able to catch me on AIM every now and then, but if not, I'd like to say bye to everyone, hopefully I will get through this tough spot in my life by the time spies 5 rolls around.
